Scribbler is an extension site for Mike McGuire's Creative Writing courses at MVCC. It's a place to move the conversation beyond the confines of our classroom. Let your voice be heard.

Note: Open registration for this site is now closed. If you are a student and have yet to register, see me in class.

Remember, there are a few basic activities that you should be doing on an ongoing basis as part of this course.

Post under “Playbook Entry” on Scribbler once a week, as assigned, focusing on the literature of the course and what you can learn from it as a writer.

Post narrative projects as assigned under "Work for Review." This is how you will make your major draft work available to the class.

Write thorough peer review essays. During the week immediately following a major draft due date, read and comment on the latest written work of your classmates. Respond to at least three pieces. Each response should be at least 500 words in length.

Find your name on the list, and write peer reviews (i.e replies to the latest work posted under "ready for review") for each of the three people below you on the list. If you get to the bottom before reaching three, start back again at the top of the list. Ask if you have questions.

Using this site instead of distributing paper throughout the semester will save approximately 5000 sheets of paper when all is said and done (about 200 sheets/student), which is the amount of typical copy paper that can be harvested from 0.6 whole trees or 45 linear feet of 1-foot diameter tree trunk. The tree thanks you dearly by giving you oxygen to breathe. :-)
